play31
October 29th, 2008while in new york i stayed with my good friend jakob lund. i’ve known him since we both studied at roskilde university back in the early 2000-sands…. i since escaped to the journalism school and he’s been… well, pretty much everywhere.
while we still studied together, a bunch of us boys used to get together once a week to play some in-door football (or soccer). i usually got my ass kicked, while jakob did slightly better.
as i mentioned, jakob is now based in new york where he studies… something human rights-related at columbia university.
during a trip to sierra leone, he came up with a way to combine a passion for human rights work and the beautiful game of football: he started a ngo with the sole purpose of distributing footballs in war-torn countries. so far he’s focused on sierra leone, but plans to expand to other countries along the way.
if you feel like it, do stop by the website, play31, and make a contribution. This is all very much lo-fi, grassroot stuff, so everything counts. there’s also a facebook group you can join.
