robert used to play in a rock band. he said that editorial work is like going on the road. often you are playing in an empty bar in a nowhere town and wonder ‘why am I doing this?’ all of those gigs make you stronger – more ready for the big gigs, the arenas and the studio sessions.

hello world!

yes, i’m still here. the blog has been quiet, but i’ve been pretty busy. one on the reasons posting has been slow, is that i haven’t been shooting a lot.

since august i’ve taken a tv class and have been trying to find up and down in all of this. it’s been extremely interesting, but also very confusing. what is embedded below is the result, a 20 minute documentary on civil disobedience during the climate summit in copenhagen, COP15.

we follow in the heels of an activist as he takes part in one of the major protests outside the bella centre where the summit took place. through interview he elaborates on his reasons for taking part in political activism, and we talk to a law professor and a political philosopher.

so far it’s in danish and without english subtitles. sorry.

the pictures below by joel sternfeld is one of my all time favorites. it’s from his book american prospects.

so i was excited when i saw, that blake andrews had an explanation on how the picture came to be on his blog. here’s a short extract:

According to Clark, a developer had bought the property planning to build a subdivision but before he could proceed he needed to raze the existing structure. He offered the house up to the MVFD to burn in a controlled way. The MVFD would get some practical training and the developer would be rid of the structure. A win-win situation.

update: i just realized that andrews is doing a whole series of revisited posts where he’s looking closer at a lot of the pictures from the book, attaching old newspaper articles relating to the event and such. sweet!

sundsvall & rockabillys – a multimedia experiment

i just came back from a multimedia workshop in sundsvall, sweden, led by the friendly gentlemen in bombay flying club. the piece below was researched, shot and edited in a little less than three days by Sara Galbiati, Johan Hultgren and myself.

this was a valuable lesson in shooting video with the canon 5d mark2, figuring out how to transcode and editing under a tight deadline.

there’s an interesting interview with vii photographer benjamin lowy up at the lens blog over at nytimes.

in the interview mr. lowy talk about working in very different environments (iraq and fashion) and on changing style from assignment to assignment. it’s something i’ve been thinking about and it’s interesting to listen to his toughts on the subject.

working on a new website

its time for an updated website. i’ve taken down the old (temporary…) one, and put up a new (temporary) site.

this time, though, there’s a cms system behind it, so adding pictures won’t be such a pain in the ass. check it out, it’s pretty sweet and damn simple.

i need a real logo and have to go over all the little details, like link colors and so on.

the work never stops, does it?

today i learned that some people like to dress like manga characters and attend conventions for like-minded people. they call it cosplay and it’s incredible cool.

the magazine journalisten, published by the danish journalism union, recently ran a story claiming that the massive media presence at roskilde festival was merely an excuse for partying with fellow media people. i’m not in a position to say what other people were doing, but i do know, that we were working pretty damn hard.

here’s a few ‘behind the scene’ shots of the condition we were working under. i wasn’t able to see above any of the stages, so i had to stand on my toes or find something to stand on… i really should write a letter to the festival and ask, why the pit has to be so low…?
